Merge facebook, gmail & mobile phone contacts
Solution

So here is the problem. Most phones now allow you to…

1) open your mobile phone book of contacts

2) open your facebook phone book of contacts.

3) open your gmail phone book of contacts

Although This is a GREAT feature, it doesnt allow you to merge the 3 into your own manageable database of contacts. Since I own a web design and software development company, database control is VERY important to me.

4) Also if you use microsoft outlook, you will want to merge these as well.

===================

In this process we are going to use gmail as a main source to import all contacts.

1A) SYNC MOBILE PHONE CONTACTS INTO GMAIL CONTACTS:

Sync your mobile phone contacts into gmails contact list with google sync.

P.S.This is a better alternative to syncing with outlook because it makes your contacts available online 24/7. Just by logging into gmail.com on your phone or any computer.

2A) EXPORT FACEBOOK CONTACTS INTO GMAIL CONTACTS:

# If you have Firefox and GreaseMonkey, then click this link http://bradfitz.com/greasemonkey/facebook_phonebook_export.user.js and it’ll ask if you want to install it.

# Go to your Facebook Phonebook (sorry, no permalink to it)

# Then in Firefox go into Tools > GreaseMonkey > User Script Commands… > and you’ll see Export Facebook Phonebook.

# That’ll then page through your phone book (you should probably start on page 1: it’s kinda flaky) and extract the data, and then auto POST it to AddressBooker for you, which will then guide you through merging it into your Google Contacts.

4A) EXPORT OUTLOOK CONTACTS INTO GMAIL CONTACTS:

STEP 1:  In outlook you can go to: File/Import-export/Export to a file/Comma Separated Value(windows).

STEP 2: Go to Gmail contact list and select “import”. Then choose the CSV file you just exported from outlook.

Once you add all the contact to Gmail, you can then go through and merge duplicates and clean it out.  You know have a centralized contacts database!

Now when you add numbers to your phone, they will automatically be added to your gmail contact list through Activesync (Step 1A).

CONFLICTS:

You can change the sync settings on Activesync  (mobile phone)  to handle conflicts differently.  On your phone open activesync/menu/configure server/next/next/menu/advanced.  There you will see a drop down.

Enjoy!

AddressBooker [source here].

Basically AddressBooker takes a POST of contacts data in JSON form, and does stuff with it, where “stuff” is currently limited to merging it into your Google Contacts. (GMail, Android, etc)
